SLIDER

early christmas in oregon

Last week we flew to Oregon for our Christmas vacation. Now that I'm back in UT I'm so sad its over. I loved being home -- Gresham and Astoria. I had to convince myself not to have a break down upon returning to Utah. Luckily, Cecily and Clayton were kind enough to pick us up from the airport which helped immensely, because as soon as I walked in the door, I got chills, a fever, sinus pressure, (TMI?) sorry. It was awful, just the welcoming present I wanted to go back to work with.

We flew in Thursday evening, but due to a random arctic storm that Oregon got -- ice and snow -- we stayed the night with the Vances in Vancouver, until the next morning when we could drive in the day time. We arrived in Astoria, did some shopping, ate good food and went to see the new Star Wars, Rogue One. The next day, we went to Seaside for more shopping! I'm sure Bronson enjoyed that deserved break from shopping with me! We got to watch Holiday Inn while making tie-fleece blankets. Sunday we went to church and heard Michelle give a great lesson about Jesus Christ in Relief Society. We ate pork chops, packed up, and made our way to Gresham for a "Christmas dinner" with all the PNW siblings. Only at a Lewis Family Dinner do you make 10lbs of mashed potatoes! Julia Vance wrote out the script for the Nativity play and brought costumes for everyone. My favorite part was when Joseph (played by Issac, 6 years old), pulls the camel which Mary was riding on and says with exasperation, "Come ON, Mary!" After the Nativity, the grand kids put on a talent show, performing their recital pieces they've learned.

MT HOOD!

Monday, the S&T family, the Vances, and Caudles came over again to do cookie decorating. And of course, many games of Acquire were played. After having S & T family for dinner, with Asher being the prime entertainment, we watched White Christmas with mom and dad. The next morning, Bronson and I window shopped, admiring all the beautiful crafts that I can't buy... sigh... and we came home to make 27 plates of caramel popcorn. My parents have made it every year since they got married. #Traditions I guess. Afterwards, I made some homemade lotion -- I left it with my mom since I couldn't take it on the plane, but it didn't turn out too bad! That night we watched "A Season of Miracles," it wasn't too bad.

Crismon and Danielle arrived that evening, and the next morning we played a game of Acquire before we flew out. It was so fun spending time with everyone and just being home. We wish we could have stayed longer and for the full holiday but sometimes sacrifices have to be made for providing a life for ourselves. The best part of all is having homes and families to visit and feeling loved, I hope I never take that for granted.
